China's heavy-duty truck market has continued to recover in 2026, with both domestic demand and overseas sales showing stronger activity.
According to preliminary industry data, China sold around 753,000 heavy trucks from January to July 2026, including heavy-duty truck chassis and tractor units. This represents a 21% increase compared with the same period last year.
The growth is also being seen in the powertrain market. Rising fuel costs and demand for lower operating costs are encouraging some transport companies to look at electric heavy trucks. Reuters reported in August that China's electric truck exports had more than doubled over a four-month period, with particularly strong growth in South and Southeast Asian markets.
For traditional diesel trucks, however, demand remains strong in applications where long working hours, heavy loads and limited charging infrastructure are important factors. Dump trucks, tractor trucks and other heavy commercial vehicles continue to be widely used in construction, mining, logistics and material transportation.
The construction machinery market is also showing positive signs. Recent industry data shows strong overseas demand for Chinese-made equipment, with exports of electric loaders reaching 1,643 units in the reported period, up 172% year on year. Electric excavator exports also increased by 60.7%.
At the same time, manufacturers are paying more attention to after-sales service, spare parts supply and localized support. For international buyers, the purchase decision is no longer based only on the truck price. Fuel consumption, maintenance costs, parts availability and suitability for local road conditions are becoming equally important.
For Chinese truck and construction equipment exporters, this creates opportunities in markets across Asia, Africa, Latin America and other developing regions. Different markets still have very different requirements, so configurations such as 6×4 and 8×4 drive systems, right-hand drive, engine emission standards, axle ratios and cargo body sizes often need to be adjusted according to the customer's actual working conditions.
Overall, the 2026 market shows that demand for heavy transportation equipment remains active. While electric trucks are gaining attention, diesel heavy trucks still have an important role in long-distance transport, construction and mining, especially in regions where charging infrastructure is still developing.
