India's construction equipment industry is attracting more attention as the country continues to invest in roads, railways, airports and other infrastructure projects.
According to a Reuters report published on August 21, 2026, India is preparing a $1.2 billion incentive program to encourage domestic production of high-value construction and infrastructure equipment. The plan is expected to attract around $1.8 billion in new investment over seven years.
The proposed program covers equipment such as tunnel boring machines, firefighting equipment and elevators. India's infrastructure equipment market is currently valued at around 1 trillion rupees, or about $10.5 billion, according to the same report.
Infrastructure Projects Keep Equipment Demand Active
India's infrastructure expansion is creating demand for a wide range of machines. Excavators, wheel loaders, dump trucks and other equipment are commonly used for road construction, earthmoving and site preparation.
The wider Asian market is also showing steady growth. A 2026 market report estimates that the ASEAN construction machinery market will reach about $8.51 billion in 2026, with an expected annual growth rate of around 4.92% through 2031.
For equipment suppliers and exporters, this means Southeast Asia and South Asia remain markets worth watching. Buyers are not only looking for brand-new machines. Used equipment and stock machines can also be attractive when the purchase price, machine condition and spare-parts supply make sense for the local market.
What Buyers Are Looking For
Price is still an important factor, but it is not the only one. For used construction equipment, buyers normally pay close attention to engine condition, hydraulic system performance, working hours, undercarriage wear and the availability of replacement parts.
For trucks, similar considerations apply. Engine output, axle configuration, cargo capacity, fuel consumption and local road conditions can all affect the actual operating cost.
As infrastructure investment continues across India and Southeast Asia, construction equipment suppliers will likely see more opportunities in these markets. For exporters, understanding the actual working conditions and regulations of each country may be just as important as having a competitive machine price.
